Step – 1: Get a Bike

- Located at 51 E. Gregor Dr., Champaign, IL 61820
- Offers affordable refurbished bicycles for sale (typically $100-$300)
- Offers Build-a-Bike program (typically $50+)

Step – 2: Register Your Bike and Take the Bike Safety Quiz
- Bike registration is required on campus and helps recover stolen bikes.
- One-time $10 registration fee, which gets you 529 Shield sticker.
- Takes <10 minutes to register.
- Available for adults, children, motorists, and truck drivers.
- Teaches how to share the road safely
- Takes <10 minutes

Step – 3: Learn the Rules and Safety Checklist

- Always Ride Safely
- Follow the State of Illinois Vehicle Code
- Follow the rules set in the University Bicycle Ordinance
- Always wear a helmet while riding
- Always use a sturdy U-lock and properly lock your bike
- Always have a front light and back reflector or light while riding in the dark
Step – 4: Plan Your Route
Use the Bicycle Map to find:
- Bicycle network – bike paths, bike lanes, sharrows, etc.
- All bike racks on campus
- Do-It Yourself Bicycle Repair Stations
Where to park your bicycle:
- Always lock to a bike rack only
- There are bike racks within 150 ft. of all campus buildings
- Do not lock to ADA ramps, railings, or trees
- Improperly parked bicycles may be impounded
