Bike at Illinois: How to Lock Your Bicycle to U-Loop and Ladder Racks

Bike at Illinois presents how to properly lock your bicycle on campus at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

In this video, you will learn the recommended way of locking your bicycle to inverted U-loop racks and Ladder racks using a U-lock in combination with a cable. Inverted U-loop racks are the standard bike racks at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and more than 90% of bike racks on-campus are inverted U-loop racks. You will also learn how to lock your bicycle if you only have a U-lock. You can purchase a good quality U-lock from the Campus Bike Center as well.

Bike to Work Day 2021

Following is a video showcasing the Bike to Work Day 2021 event at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus. Bike to Work Day is a community event organized by the Bike Month Planning Team across the Champaign County. Usually, this event is held during the month of May (Bike Month), but, in 2021, it was organized on 9/14/2021 from 7 – 10 a.m. There were 16 Welcome Stations: 9 on the University of Illinois campus, 2 in each of Urbana and Champaign as well as in stations in Mahomet, Savoy, and Rantoul. There were 806 pre-registered participants breaking the previous record set in 2010 and approximately 150 walk-ins. As of 3/28/2022, nearly 1,000 Bike Month t-shirts, including t-shirts to sponsors, have been distributed.
