About

Bike at Illinois is a campus initiative to promote bicycling in the campus community as a safe, healthy, and sustainable mode of transportation. Bicycling is an excellent and proven sustainable form of transportation. Bike at Illinois is your source for information and resources that help you have a safer, more comfortable and more enjoyable biking experience at the University of Illinois.

We, at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, strongly encourage our students, faculty, staff, and visitors to utilize the bicycle infrastructure available on campus. As of October 2019, our campus can accommodate up to 11,635 bicycles, and nearly all campus buildings have a bike rack within 150 feet. With the introduction of a bike share program, investment in campus bike infrastructure, Bike at Illinois, MCORE project, and other bicycle-related features, we have achieved Silver-level Bicycle Friendly University (BFU) certification from the League of American Bicyclists (LAB). Read more about our achievement in the F&S news announcement: Illinois Promoted to a Silver Bicycle Friendly University.

Beyond campus, the City of Champaign has been recognized as bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League, and Urbana has been recognized as a gold-level Bicycle Friendly Community. Together, we are all working to encourage bicyclists and to improve conditions for bicycling in our community.

Using funds from the student-initiated Bicycle Programs and Infrastructure Fee, Facilities & Services worked with Creative Services to develop this Bike at Illinois website. We are grateful to all our campus and community partners in making the whole area bike-friendly, and we hope you enjoy the ride!
