Frequently Asked Questions
What is “PPSB”?
Physical Plant Services Building (PPSB) is home to Facilities & Services (F&S) and is located at the Northwest corner of Kirby Ave and Oak St. in Champaign.
When do we get Block Assignments?
We are working or little tails off on this! We will have the Block Assignments on the Monday before event. Thank you to all who put in a request and if you have special accommodations (a class immediately after, for instance). Everybody volunteering is busy but is finding time to help because of our compassion for the bicycle future on campus and in Champaign-Urbana area.
I have attended this event before. Do I need to go through training again?
Yes, because we have moved away from paper maps, and everything will be done using the ArcGIS Collector app
Will we get to see the results of the count?
Currently, we are in the process of hiring a GIS support at Facilities & Services (F&S). All information collected in the ArcGIS Collector app, will be used to update the F&S database, and once it is finalized, we will published a report with the information collected here. This might take some time, and we hope to have a report by the end of this year. The current plan is to create an information graphic based on the information collected on this day. Let Sarthak Prasad, sprasad9@illinois.edu, if there is anything in particular you would like to know, see, or have graphic design/technical skills and like to help.
Who are you?
The Bicycle Census is run by volunteers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Champaign County Bikes, the Bike Project of Urbana-Champaign, and community members. Sarthak Prasad is the Sustainable Transportation Assistant at the University of Illinois. Jake Benjamin is the Campus Bike Center Manager. Jeff Yockey and Charlie Smyth are from Champaign County Bikes.
